Trivia Night

The Steampackets held their annual fundraising Trivia Night on Friday, which was hailed a resounding success, despite the many fist fights, thrown chairs and calls to Triple 0.

For the third year running, the quizmaster was clad in a balaclava, employed a voice changing device to conceal his identity and would only answer queries when referred to as “Mr Quizmaster Sir”. Every time a trivia question was unable to be answered by any team member he performed a victory dance and chanted “In Your Face!”

As usual there was a number of controversial questions, including “How many ants make up the colony currently living in the Steampackets Clubhouse brickwork?”, “What is my favourite colour?” and “Discuss in at least 1000 words, and using three examples from the text, the concept of treachery as performed by both Claudius before the start of the play and Hamlet towards the end. Ensure that each example is correctly referenced.” But it was generally agreed that a trivia night is no fun unless everyone has something to complain about.

Even a simple question like “What song is Number One on the ARIA charts?” caused problems for at least one Steampacket (who wished to remain anonymous, but we can’t all have what we wish for, can we Sally?) “I am SURE Andrew G said that Pink was number one last week on HIS charts. I got that wrong just because Justin Timberlake is number one on ARIA… I mean really, who cares about ARIA? Andrew G has the best hair so it stands to reason that his charts are also the best.”

Overall the night raised enough money for the Carnival that the Steampacket plan to hold on the Ladies’ Day Reunion, which is fast approaching.

If you would like some questions answered, then come along to Steampacket Park on Tuesdays and Fridays.
